Karen and I have always enjoyed a good trail ride. Whether it is a dude ranch near Bandera or the hills of Iceland, we seem to end up on horses during our travels. Our March show is going to sound a lot like that. Sarah Pierce is originally from a ranch in Illinois but now calls the Texas Hill Country her home. She’s a cowboy’s daughter, so that made it extra special when her song “Barbed Wire” was CMA of Texas Song of the Year in 2019. Her music expresses the cowboy life and so much more. As a bonus for our WagginTails crowd, Sarah is bringing her good friend John Lowell from Montana. John is highly acclaimed in the western and bluegrass music scene. His 2024 album Snow on the Wineglass was the International Western Music Accociation album of the year.
If you've followed folk and Americana music for the last 50 years, you know Dana Cooper. Starting in 1972, Dana has released 32 studio albums, including his latest, the 2024 release of the The Ghost of Tucumcari. After we booked Dana for this show, Rush Evans (Austin music aficionado and host of KOOP's Singer and the Song program) exclaimed "He's a genius!!" For over a decade, he was half of the highly acclaimed duo of The Shake Russell/Dana Cooper band, who garnered a large following in Texas as well as appearing on Austin City Limits. Dana and Shake are reuniting for two sold out shows at the O4 Center in Austin in February. We feel so blessed to be able to feature such an influential folk artist as Dana Cooper for our WagginTails audience.
