We've known Stetson Walker (yes, that is his real name) since elementary school. His grandpa Jim Barr was a fixture on the Texas bluegrass circuit. His mom Sherri Barr Walker is quite accomplished as well on vocals and guitar, including an appearance at the Grand Ole Opry. Stetson is real, honest country. He has the voice, the boots, and is a gunslinger of a guitarist on both acoustic and electric. It was an outstanding show.

House Thoughts on the Artists

Stetson Walker 10/15/23

Shawnee Kilgore 11/12/23

One of Karen's besties from way back just happens to be Rush Evans, host of "The Singer and the Song" on KOOP radio. Because of his deep ties to the Austin and Texas music scene, we asked him for recommendations on local singer/songwriters. Without hesitation he replied "Shawnee Kilgore. She's the one!" From the first song to the last, Shawnee captivated our crowd. It is difficult, nigh impossible to explain what happened, other than you felt deeply that it was exceptional.

Susan Gibson 03/24/24

When we decided to do this house concert thing, Susan was the first artist we contacted and the first artist to book with us. We knew it would be special. We just didn't realize how special. The stories and her performance just turned the afternoon into a dear friendship conference. Even radio personality and musical history savant Rush Evans was there to introduce Susan. We had a wonderful crowd. Susan's dog sat beside her on this song. Just magical!!

Deer Fellow 10/13/24

What can we say? Before the show I wrote "No one sings like Max. No one plays guitar like Max. No one tells stories like Max. All three. On every song." Max was fantastic. New songs, old songs, funny songs, poignant songs, the whole enchilada. This was our 9th time to see him perform - and the most personal. We had our largest crowd yet and everyone left thinking they were honorary citizens of New Mexico. It's not new. It's not Mexico. :-)

Max Gomez 4/14/24

Perhaps it is because we've had a rather hot September and October (thus far), but after catching a Deer Fellow show in Austin, I was explaining to a friend that their sound was like floating in a cool pool on a hot summer day. Refreshing! After their first set at WagginTails, the same friend exclaimed "that was a great description!" Matt and Alyssa's voices just blended to a point of being a single multi-tone musical being (it makes sense when you see them). Inspired original works. Unique covers. A wonderful afternoon. Thanks Deer Fellow!

Ordinary Elephant 11/3/24

The list of honors for this folk duo is long and distinguished. Their formal bio has the list, including International Folk Music Awards Artist of the Year in 2017 and Kerrville Folk Festival finalists. We saw them in Kerrville at the Festival in 2023. The guy sitting next to us said "this next group is my definition of what folk music sounds like". Oh man was he correct. We sat there and listened as their music just flowed over us - like standing underneath a waterfall on a hot summer day.
